- Investigators identified $317,604 in credit card charges across 793 transactions between January 2022 and November 2024, according to the North Carolina State Auditor's Office report released Monday.
- State Auditor Dave Boliek detailed personal purchases including more than $10,700 on food transactions, $2,300 on Visa gift cards, $1,500 on DoorDash, and $276 on gun ammunition from Lucky Gunner.
- Boliek stated, "Pilot Mountain is a small town, not a large city," and noted that "these sums of money are meaningful to the taxpayers in Pilot Mountain."
- The Pilot Mountain Board of Commissioners terminated Boaz in December 2024 after he was placed on unpaid leave in October 2024 amid allegations of misusing town funds.
