Cars and Parts Drive Retail Sales Bump in August: StatCan
Retail sales reached $70.4 billion with automotive sector sales rising 1.8% and clothing retail up 3.2%, according to Statistics Canada data for August 2025.
- Canadian retail sales rebounded in August, rising 1% to $70.40 billion from a revised 0.7% drop in July.
- The biggest boost came from the automotive sector, which grew 1.8% led by a 2.3% jump in new car sales.
- Clothing and accessories sales rose 3.2%, while food and beverage sales were up 0.3%.
