Starlink, Starshield Speeds Exceed 161 Km/h in Ukraine, MoD Says

Ukrainian defense specialists said the terminals are again operating above the previous 161 km/h limit after days of disruption to drone and battlefield communications.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 24, Ukrainian Defense Forces confirmed that Starlink and Starshield satellite terminals operating inside Ukraine are functioning at velocities exceeding the previously enforced 161 km/h cap.
  • The previously enforced 161 km/h cap severely impaired Ukrainian tactical air defenses against high-speed Russian Shahed loitering munitions, which cruise at velocities between 400 and 600 km/h.
  • To confirm the restriction was deliberate, Ukrainian specialists transported Starlink-equipped vehicles into European Union territory, where the terminals functioned uninterrupted at 180 km/h.
  • US President Donald Trump denied ordering operational curbs, claiming 'everything is the same as it's always been,' despite reports that he asked SpaceX founder Elon Musk to lift restrictions.
  • Military communications detachments are conducting diagnostic trials to determine if service parameters have been restored unconditionally across Ukrainian combat airspace or if secondary operational ceilings remain in place.
