Toys 'R' Us Canada to Open Within 300 Staples Stores by End of 2027
The rollout starts with a pilot in Richmond Hill and aims to bring dedicated toy and party departments to about 300 stores by 2027.
On Tuesday, Staples Canada announced a deal with Next Century Ipco Can ULC to become the exclusive partner for Toys and Parties. This agreement establishes Staples Canada as the official retailer for both brands.
Earlier this year, Next Century acquired the trademarks after the brand, managed by Ancaster, Ont. entrepreneur Doug Putman, filed for creditor protection. This purchase allowed for the new retail partnership.
A pilot launch in Richmond Hill, Ont. begins on November 14, with plans to expand into roughly 300 Staples stores by the end of 2027. This rollout will bring dedicated shopping areas nationwide.
Staples CEO Jens Cermak said the deal creates an "exciting new destination for Canadian families," combining the company's retail network to offer more choice, convenience, and engaging experiences in store and online.
The partnership also includes a digital experience through Staples, ensuring new Parties and Toys departments are available alongside the existing selection. This integration aims to revitalize the brand across every province.
