Stanley Black & Decker To Shutter New Britain Manufacturing Facility
The closure reflects a structural decline in demand for single-sided tape measures, impacting about 300 workers with support offered for severance and job placement, officials said.
On Thursday, Stanley Black & Decker announced it will close its New Britain manufacturing facility, impacting approximately 300 employees in the tape division.
Company officials said falling demand for single-sided tape measures reflects shifting consumer behavior, with these products quickly becoming obsolete in their markets, Debora Raymond said Thursday.
Stanley Black & Decker said it will provide options at other facilities, severance and job-placement support for affected salaried and hourly employees, and its corporate headquarters will remain at 1000 Stanley Dr., New Britain.
State Rep. David DeFronzo said 'You know it's a sad day for New Britain. Stanley Works has a long history here and slowly but surely its presence has been eroded', and Gov. Ned Lamont called the change difficult for employees and families, pledging support.
Amid a multi-year restructuring launched in 2022, Stanley Black & Decker reports $2.1 billion in pre-tax run-rate savings and completed the Consolidated Aerospace Manufacturing sale for $1.8 billion.
