Stanford Names Michigan Transfer Davis Warren as Starting Quarterback
Warren won the job after starting nine games for Michigan in 2024 and returns from knee surgery as Stanford opens Pritchard’s first season.
On Tuesday, Stanford head coach Tavita Pritchard named former Michigan quarterback Davis Warren the team's starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
The quarterback competition featured senior Dylan Rizk, fifth-year senior Charlie Mirer, freshman Devin Mignery of Cardinal Mooney High, and freshman Michael Mitchell of Archbishop Riordan High.
During the 2024 season at Michigan, Warren started nine games, helping the team defeat Ohio State and Alabama while completing 64.1% of his passes for 1,199 yards with seven TDs and nine interceptions.
Warren's journey to Stanford involved overcoming a high school leukemia diagnosis and a torn ACL sustained during Michigan's 2025 bowl game against Alabama before sitting out last season.
Pritchard praised Warren's leadership, saying, "He's dedicated and committed to not just who he is as a player, but how he can affect others as a leader, as the quarterback," as Warren prepares for the August 29 opener against Hawaii.
