Stamkos Shootout Goal Leads Predators over Lightning 5-4
Steven Stamkos tied it in regulation and scored the shootout winner as Nashville ended a five-game skid in extra-time games.
On Saturday, former Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored the tying goal and the shootout winner, leading the Nashville Predators to a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Nashville snapped a five-game losing streak in overtimes and shootouts with the win, having previously lost two straight games before Saturday.
Goaltender Justus Annunen, in his 83rd career game, stopped all four Lightning penalty shots in his first career shootout, while Stamkos recorded his 246th career power-play goal, tying Phil Esposito for sixth in NHL history.
Head coach Andrew Brunette said, "Obviously, I thought we played a really good hockey game," and noted he whispered advice to Stamkos because "I know he knows Vasilevskiy."
The Predators return to action Tuesday, November 3, hosting the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes, while the Lightning host Detroit the same night.
