St. Cloud creator Fay Omar embraces faith, music and community
She is pairing new songs with advocacy for mental health, autism and immigrant families after stepping away from music in 2023.
On Saturday, March 29, 2026, Fay Omar performed at Pioneer Place in St. Cloud for the Central Minnesota Shynes benefit concert supporting immigrant families, marking her return to music after stepping away in 2023.
During a four-month stay in Malaysia in 2024, Omar's perspective shifted as she helped her sister Leyla settle into a new home, easing the spiritual conflict that prompted her 2023 departure from music.
Omar reaches more than 106,000 TikTok followers with videos about mental health and faith, gaining over 60,000 followers through her advocacy. She introduced 'mankaad,' meaning 'unique mind,' to normalize autism awareness in her community.
Working with state Sen. Aric Putnam, Omar expanded into mental health, autism awareness and political engagement. When January 2026 ICE enforcement activity traumatized the St. Cloud Somali community, she said the benefit concert 'reminded me what this place can be.'
Rather than choosing one identity, Omar is learning to hold multiple roles at once: artist and advocate, softness and resilience. Her sister Ayan Omar said Omar's 'vulnerability and audacity to hope' makes her someone others can connect with.
