Speeding Driver Admits Killing Woman and Two Dogs in London Crash
Dantay Roche admitted driving at 61mph in a 30mph zone, and police said he abandoned the car after the fatal crash.
Dantay Roche, 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday at the Old Bailey to causing death by dangerous driving, criminal damage, and driving an uninsured vehicle in the December 2023 death of Marie Theobald and her two dogs in Chigwell.
In December 2023, Roche struck Theobald as she crossed Manford Way in Ilford with her two Maltese dogs, Riley and Honey, while driving at 61mph in a 30mph zone.
Detective Inspector Mark Braithwaite, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, said: "We do not know why Roche was driving like he was that night, as he has never provided an explanation either to the police or the courts."
Roche remains in custody and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on January 25, 2027, while Theobald's family remembered her as a "selfless" woman who "always put others first."
CCTV footage captured Roche exiting his vehicle to inspect damage before fleeing; he later surrendered at Ilford police station the following day, concluding the investigation into the collision that killed the 48-year-old mother.
