Kate Martin Signs with New WNBA Team After Valkyries Parted Ways with Caitlin Clark's Iowa Teammate
Martin joins Los Angeles on a developmental deal and can appear in 12 games while the Sparks add needed wing depth.
On Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Los Angeles Sparks signed guard Kate Martin to a developmental contract just hours before their season opener against the Las Vegas Aces.
Golden State Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase waived Martin on Thursday amid roster constraints, opting to prioritize other positional depth needs as the team finalized its 2026 roster.
Under the developmental deal, Martin will receive $6,136 per game and a $750 weekly stipend while eligible to be activated for up to 12 games during the 2026 season.
"It was a business decision," Martin told reporters, while Sparks General Manager Raegan Pebley praised her "tenacious defense" and shooting prowess as assets for their system.
Martin, selected 18th overall in the 2024 draft, brings needed wing depth to a Sparks roster lacking at that position and offers her a path to earn a standard contract.
