Albania Court Suspends Spy Chief, Orders House Arrest in Graft Probe
Prosecutors say the case involves tender-rigging at the state IT agency and the diversion of tens of millions of euros to organized-crime-linked accounts.
- On Tuesday, anti-corruption prosecutors placed Vlora Hyseni, head of Albania's State Intelligence Service , under house arrest for allegedly revealing state secrets and assisting an offender.
- Investigations center on the National Agency for Information Society , where SPAK alleges officials pre-selected tender winners and diverted about 59 million euros in procedures to organized crime groups.
- Former Chief of Police Ilir Proda was questioned by SPAK, while authorities arrested AKSHI director Mirlinda Karcanaj's deputy, Hava Delibashi, and businessman Ermal Beqiraj, who remains under arrest in France.
- Opposition MPs urged President Bajram Begaj to convene the State Security Council, while Socialist MP Blendi Cuci stated, "Nothing is true until proven by the courts."
