Spain Includes Bernabeu, Camp Nou Among Venues in 2035 World Cup Bid
The Spanish Rugby Federation says the bid would use major football venues and aims to build on the 2030 FIFA World Cup infrastructure.
On Thursday, the Spanish Rugby Federation unveiled its bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, placing iconic football stadiums including Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabéu at the heart of the offer.
The bid leverages infrastructure, security, and volunteer management established for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Spain co-hosts with Portugal and Morocco while securing LaLiga support.
Aiming to connect with 700 million Spanish speakers, the federation identified Mestalla Stadium as an additional venue and aims to deliver the "best World Cup in history."
Spain faces stiff competition from Japan and a South American bid involving Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay seeking to host the tournament.
RFER Executive President Juan Carlos Martin 'Hansen' stated the federation aims to establish Spain as a Tier One rugby nation, with World Rugby expected to appoint a host in 2027.
Supported by the Liga, the Spanish candidacy intends to build on the infrastructure developed for the World Football 2030, co-organised with Portugal and Morocco.
