SpaceX Plans $100B Spaceport in Louisiana
State records show dozens of officials and companies signed secrecy agreements as Louisiana negotiated a $100 billion SpaceX spaceport expected to create 3,000 jobs.
- On Wednesday, Louisiana Economic Development released 31 nondisclosure agreements for Project Osprey, the $100 billion SpaceX spaceport Governor Jeff Landry announced Tuesday in Vermilion Parish.
- State records show dozens of officials, including lawmakers and local leaders, signed NDAs to keep details secret about the 125,000-acre site the state sold SpaceX for $100 million.
- Defending the agreements Tuesday, Landry argued NDAs are essential to remain competitive and prevent other states from knowing Louisiana's plans. "You think I want Texas to steal my thunder?" Landry said.
- Public Affairs Research Council president Steve Procopio said the agreements create "huge tension" between economic development and the public's right to know, amid growing concerns from transparency advocates.
- LED has facilitated more than 300 NDAs since Landry took office, including agreements with tech giants Amazon and Meta as the administration pursues major corporate investments.
