Pastor, Wife Arrested After He Sexually Abused Foster Child, Police Say
Authorities say the abuse began when the child was 15 and at least two victims have been identified, with more possible, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
- On April 1, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott arrested pastor Rodney Gibson and his wife, Kawiana Young, both 50, charging them with abusing minors in their Columbia, South Carolina, foster home.
- South Carolina Department of Social Services records show Young was a licensed foster parent from June 2021 until June 2025, caring for six children while never disclosing her marriage to Gibson, whose name did not appear on the license.
- Investigators say a victim came forward March 12, alleging Gibson sexually assaulted her repeatedly from age 15 until she turned 18; a second minor in the home reported physical abuse by Young.
- Gibson and Young were released on bond on April 2, with Gibson granted $75,000 and Young $10,000, subject to a no-contact order restricting their movement.
- Authorities believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to contact 911 or submit anonymous tips to CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
