South Bay Man Arrested For Attempted Murder Of Police Officer
Four federal air marshals helped detain Arturo Fernandez after a Long Beach officer was stabbed multiple times, police said.
- On April 17, 44-year-old Arturo Fernandez, a resident of Torrance, was arrested for the attempted murder of a Long Beach Police officer during a trouble call in Long Beach.
- Officers responded to an unknown trouble call in the 200 block of West Broadway around 2:42 pm, where the suspect produced a knife and stabbed an officer multiple times after attempting de-escalation.
- Four Homeland Security federal air marshals working nearby witnessed the assault and rushed to aid officers, assisting the LBPD in taking Fernandez into custody without further incident.
- After being medically cleared at the hospital, Fernandez was booked at Long Beach City Jail for attempted murder with bail set at $1,000,000, where he remains in custody.
