Sony Wants Its Afeela EV to Be Heavy on AI, Also Shows Crossover
- On January 5, 2026, Sony Honda Mobility announced it has begun trial production runs of the Afeela 1 at Honda's East Liberty Auto Plant in Ohio while debuting the AFEELA Prototype 2026 at CES, Las Vegas.
- To support its roadmap, SHM said it will use Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, Qualcomm's Snapdragon Digital Chassis, and implement the AFEELA Co-Creation Program and Quality Gate inspections, SHM said.
- Featuring 40 sensors , the AFEELA 1 includes a built-in PlayStation 5 and starts with Level 2+ assistance as SHM plans Level 4-equivalent capabilities.
- SHM will initially deliver AFEELA 1s in California in 2026, requiring a refundable $200 reservation deposit, and will open AFEELA Studio and Delivery Hubs in Torrance and Fremont with an Advanced Access program this year.
- Facing a crowded market, SHM plans a production model launch in the U.S. as early as 2028 with Afeela 1 pricing from $89,900 and specs of around 400 horsepower, 150 kW charging, and 300-mile range.
