MEXICO, JUL 11 – Ovidio Guzman Lopez admitted overseeing fentanyl and other drug shipments fueling tens of thousands of U.S. overdose deaths, becoming the first of El Chapo's sons to plead guilty.
- On July 11, 2025, Ovidio Guzman Lopez, the son of infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, admitted guilt in a Chicago federal court to charges connected to his role leading the Sinaloa cartel.
- The guilty plea followed Lopez's 2023 arrest in Mexico, extradition to the U.S., and his previous role taking control of the violent Chapitos faction after his father's 2016 imprisonment.
