Son Accused of Murdering, Dismembering Mother in Another Country, Leaving Body in Landfill
Police arrested the woman’s 22-year-old son as investigators awaited an autopsy to determine how she died.
On Friday, police discovered the dismembered body of 56-year-old Belgian expat Katty Oosterlinck at the Zurita waste processing facility in Fuerteventura, Spain, four days after her family reported her missing on May 4.
The Spanish Guardia Civil's Judicial Police arrested Oosterlinck's 22-year-old son on suspicion of murder the same afternoon, while authorities transferred her body to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas for autopsy examination.
Officers visited Oosterlinck's home in Corralejo and other locations during a day-long investigation, reportedly reconstructing events surrounding the alleged murder though authorities have withheld exact circumstances.
Spain's expat community has been shaken by the incident, which follows the discovery of a dismembered Colombian woman's body on a Gran Canaria beach last year, as many residents tracked the search closely.
Further information regarding the investigation is expected following the victim's autopsy, with the suspect's name remaining undisclosed as authorities continue processing evidence.
Belgian Aaron (22) has confessed to murdering his mother Katty Oosterlinck (56) from Beveren on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura, cutting the body into pieces and dumping it in the trash. This is reported by Het Nieuwsblad.
