With more than 80% of the cases recorded, Latin America remains the most deadly continent, according to Global Witness, an NGO that has recorded these crimes since 2012. On RFI, Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur for Environmental Defenders, "removes that states do not take the measure of the phenomenon".
Often, the activists had opposed mining projects, deforestation or agricultural projects before their death, writes the organization Global Witness - and names the most dangerous countries.
