The Canadian Coast Guard rescued a sailor attempting a world record crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a 1.2-metre vessel called the Big C Atlantic Challenge.
The coast guard was notified that the sailor needed help approximately 120 kilometres east of Grates Cove, Newfoundland.
The sailor was rescued by the CCGS Sacred Bay around 2:15 p.m. and was brought to Old Perlican, Newfoundland, while the vessel was abandoned.
The sailor's journey aimed to raise money for cancer research, according to the Big C Atlantic Challenge website.
