Solana Triples Transaction Capacity with V1 Upgrade
The new format gives developers 3.3 times more space for complex transactions, while keeping Solana’s 64-account limit unchanged.
- Solana Foundation Vice President of Technology Jacob Creech identified Wednesday as the target date to increase the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, giving Developers about 3.3 times more space.
- Large operations previously required splitting instructions into multiple transactions, creating complexity and failure risk; SIMD-0385 simplifies this by letting Developers combine instructions into one atomic operation.
- Transaction v1 removes Address Lookup Tables and ALTs, placing 32-byte account addresses directly within the transaction. Applications relying heavily on lookup tables may use more bytes for the same accounts despite the larger envelope.
- Developers must explicitly adopt the new format since Legacy transactions remain under the 1,232-byte limit. Indexers must update systems to avoid displaying incorrect information regarding resource limits.
- Although Testnet has activated the feature, the official roadmap labels the mainnet upgrade as "not activated." This change remains separate from Solana's rent reductions and the Alpenglow consensus redesign.

Solana Activates Transaction V1 on September 9 With Alpenglow Following in October. What Actually Changes?
Solana is about to flip a switch on a new transaction format while a sweeping consensus overhaul waits in the wings, but bigger and faster does not automatically mean more valuable for SOL holders.
Solana triples transaction capacity with v1 upgrade
Solana targets Sept. 9 for Transaction v1, raising its maximum transaction size from 1,232 to 4,096 bytes while requiring software updates.
Solana to triple transaction size as apps get room for more complex trades
Key points of the news: Solana will activate on September 9 an update that will triple the maximum size of transactions, from 1,232 to 4,096 bytes. The change, proposed in SIMD-0296 and the adoption of QUIC, allows to do tests ZK, rollups and large multisignatures in a single atomic transaction. The new limit only applies to ... Read more
🚨 Solana will increase the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes on September 9th. ⚙️ The new capacity will only be available in the v1 transaction format, and legacy transactions will remain unchanged. 🔐 The update could open up space for more complex ZK-based processes within a single atomic transaction and create new use cases in the $SOL ecosystem. 🧪 Transaction V1 has been deployed on the testnet before the mainnet tra…
