2025 - Final Approval of the Social Security Budget Approaches

The upper chamber validated the Social Security budget by a final vote this Monday, February 17, closing an endless and unprecedented budget page.

After months of waiting, the draft budget of the Social Security for 2025 was finally adopted. The text was approved by the Senate on Monday by 225 votes to 104.

The upper house approved this text by 225 votes to 104, in the same terms as in the National Assembly. It foresees an increase in health insurance expenditure of 3.4%, compared with 2.8% originally planned.

Parliament finally adopted the draft budget of the Social Security for 2025 after a final vote by the Senate (225 votes in favour, 104 against) on Monday, February 17, putting an end to a long budget document launched in October and marked by the censorship of the previous government.

Despite the general dissatisfaction, the final version of the text in the Palais du Luxembourg is expected to be adopted quickly, with a deficit slightly above EUR 22 billion, which is a record in a period when there is no economic recession or health crisis.

After a final vote in the Senate, the Social Security Finance Bill was finally approved, 225 votes to 104, using the same terms as in the National Assembly.
