‘So Far, so Good’: Chris Kreider Patiently Adjusts to Life with Canadiens
Kreider has one goal and three assists in eight games as coach Martin St. Louis shuffles Montreal’s top six and power-play units.
Chris Kreider has transitioned to a second-line position with the Montreal Canadiens, playing alongside Josh Anderson and Alex Newhook as he adapts to his new role within the team's system.
Following an Anaheim Ducks buyout, the Canadiens signed Kreider to a one-year, $2.15-million contract on September 12 after salary-cap constraints arose from Leo Carlsson's $90-million offer sheet.
Coach Martin St. Louis noted Kreider's improved anticipation, while Kaiden Guhle highlighted the veteran's priceless experience across 966 career NHL games, 349 goals, and 287 assists.
Providing a physical edge, Kreider ranks second among Canadiens forwards with 14 hits this season while developing chemistry within the team's evolving offensive structure.
The Canadiens visit the Winnipeg Jets at Princess Auto Stadium this Sunday for the Heritage Classic, which marks Kreider's fourth NHL outdoor game, a contest he described as a "dog-and-pony show.
After only three games, Chris Kreider had already scored four points with the Canadiens. Since then, and in the next five games, the 35-year-old striker has been cleared.
