Slovakia has at the last minute unblocked European Union sanctions against Russia, rejecting a demand to exclude two oligarchs from the sanctions list. Thus, the restrictive measures have been extended for another six months.
The European Union announced on Saturday that it was extending sanctions against 2,600 Russian individuals and entities for another six months after Slovakia dropped its objections.
The risk was that if they were made an exception, other Russians could have gone to court to do the same.
