Police Presence Closes I-495 in Both Directions, Brings Traffic to a Standstill
On Tuesday, Massachusetts State Police shut down I-495 in both directions in Lowell due to an ongoing law enforcement investigation, snarling traffic during the evening commute.
A strong police presence emerged at the Shops at Highland Commons in Berlin following reports of a shooting, with officers also blocking off the Boylston Street overpass to traffic.
MassDOT is diverting northbound traffic off I-495 at Exit 89 and southbound vehicles at Exit 92 , urging drivers to use caution and seek alternative routes.
Officials warned the public to avoid gathering on highway overpasses, noting a firearm is involved in the investigation and observers could be putting themselves at significant risk.
Drivers can stay updated on traffic conditions by calling 511 or using the Mass511 app, as MassDOT has not yet shared when the highway will reopen.
