Six Young Sichuan Scholars Share Insights with Global Heritage Experts at ICOMOS General Assembly
The scholars shared earthen-site, ivory and digital preservation techniques with more than 1,800 experts from over 130 countries.
Six Sichuan scholars presented the "Sichuan model" of heritage conservation at the 22nd ICOMOS General Assembly in Malaysia, which concluded on October 24, 2026.
Held every three years, this conference serves as ICOMOS's highest-level gathering, with the assembly theme "Living Heritage: Respect, Enhance, Accept, Partner" guiding discussions among participants from more than 130 countries.
On October 20 and 21, the scholars showcased conservation techniques ranging from earthen-site preservation to digital interpretation, sharing expertise with over 1,800 global experts.
Associate research fellow Zhao Yun introduced timber-frame restoration, while Dong Jing described virtual reality interpretation at the Sanxingdui Site; Jiang Luman outlined technologies for dehydrating and consolidating excavated waterlogged ivory.
These strategies demonstrate successful approaches for presenting earthen sites sustainably, as contributions from Sichuan Province aim to strengthen cultural heritage conservation in the digital age.
