Six-year-old Sooke rider turning heads on Island mountain biking circuit
Organizers changed registration rules after Abel Bruce Pulham began winning BMX races and competing against riders ages 8 to 12.
Six-Year-Old Sooke resident Abel Bruce Pulham has become the youngest competitor ever allowed in the Island Cup mountain biking series, prompting organizers to modify registration rules to allow his entry.
Over the past year, Abel has trained through Nolan Riding, a Langford-based coaching program that helped him develop strong technical foundations on mountain biking trails.
As his online profile grows, Abel has attracted ambassador partnerships from major biking brands including Fox Racing, Race Face, Ride Concepts, and Manitou while interacting with professional riders through social media.
According to Marshall, Abel has won every BMX race he has entered in recent months by large margins and described biking as "100,000 out of 10," saying "It's my favourite thing."
With several Island Cup races still ahead this season, Abel plans to continue spending as much time as possible on his bike, having recently ridden seven hours in one day.
