SIU charges OPP officer with manslaugter in shooting death of a man in Norfold County
The SIU says there were reasonable grounds to believe a criminal offence was committed after a 22-year-old man was killed during an arrest.
On Thursday, the Special Investigations Unit charged Ontario Provincial Police Constable Quade Odrowski with manslaughter in a fatal shooting at MacDonald Turkey Point Marina on August 12, 2025.
Investigators reported that officers on Lake Erie attempted to stop a personal watercraft operator, who fled into a wooded area on foot before an officer discharged his firearm during the ensuing arrest.
Director Joseph Martino stated there were "reasonable grounds to believe" a criminal offence occurred; Odrowski was arrested Thursday at SIU headquarters and released on an undertaking with a court date set for June 2 in Simcoe.
The Ontario Provincial Police Association president David Sabatini stated members cooperated with the investigation and said the association would "fully support a legal defence as the matter proceeds through the justice system."
With the matter now before the courts, the SIU declined further comment regarding the fatal shooting incident that occurred in Norfolk County, leaving the judicial process to proceed.
