PSNI Cases Against 60 Members of Garvaghy Road Protest
Police have interviewed 18 people and are reviewing 70 hours of footage as prosecutors consider cases against protesters.
On Friday, the PSNI confirmed building "evidential packages" against 60 identified suspects in connection with the Garvaghy Road protest, investigating potential breaches of Parades Commission determinations during the unnotified 12-day standoff last month.
The protest followed a Parades Commission determination allowing an Orange Order parade on Garvaghy Road for the first time in 30 years; Northern Secretary Sir Chris Bryant subsequently banned the march after a request from PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher.
A team of 30 officers is methodically working through over 70 hours of recorded material, and among the 18 interviewed suspects are Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill and Sinn Fein president Mary Lou McDonald.
In response, the DUP announced "sanctions" against Sinn Fein, preventing O'Neill from attending Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Belfast this weekend with Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.
PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck said the investigation will continue in the coming weeks, with case files being prepared for the Public Prosecution Service to make prosecutorial decisions in line with normal process.
