Singapore criminalises AI-generated abuse images
Singapore has enacted new laws criminalizing the creation of AI-generated explicit images without consent, effective Monday, with penalties including up to two years in jail, fines, or both.
Producing intimate images without consent involving minors under 14 can lead to mandatory imprisonment of up to two years, plus fines or caning, with stricter penalties if minors are depicted.
Offenders grooming minors overseas and committing sexual offences may face up to seven years in jail if the victim is younger than 14, according to the revised legislation.
The law removes mandatory corporal punishment for certain crimes but retains judicial caning for serious sexual offences; Home Affairs Minister Sim Ann highlighted that the legislation aims to curb abuse and reduce enforcement barriers.
