US Air Force awards $13 billion Doomsday plane contract to Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada Corp. Has been awarded a $13 billion contract by the Department of the Air Force to develop a successor to the E-4B "Doomsday plane."
The new aircraft, called Survivable Airborne Operations Center , will replace the aging E-4B and is expected to be completed by July 10, 2036.
The weapon system will consist of a modified commercial derivative jet to meet military requirements.
