After a "confrontation", several Sierra Leonean soldiers were arrested by the Guinean army. Between these two neighbours, a new surge of tensions had already taken place in April-May 2025 after military movements on both sides of the border in north-eastern Guinea.
Military and police personnel from Sierra Leone were apprehended by Guinean security forces between Sunday 22 and Monday 23 in a border area between the two countries. The incident occurred between the district of Falaba, Sierra Leone, and the district of Kudaya, Guinea. The authorities of the two States, which share a border of more than 700 kilometres, confirmed the facts, but provided different versions of the event in their communiqués.

The Sierra Leone government reported that Guinean Armed Forces personnel crossed into the Kalieyereh settlement, violating the border in the region. The statement added that several soldiers, including an officer from the joint security team, were detained and taken to the Guinean side.
