Australia Change 13 Starters for Japan Test
Coach Joe Schmidt rested key players to test a new lineup led by Nick Champion de Crespigny in his third test as captain, opening Australia's end-of-season tour.
- On Saturday in Tokyo, Nick Champion de Crespigny will start as captain in his third test for a largely new Wallabies starting XV named by Joe Schmidt.
- Coach Joe Schmidt resisted pressure to rush Carter Gordon back and instead named Hamish Stewart as bench backup flyhalf while welcoming new faces in Sydney late last week.
- Rob Valetini moves to number eight with Carlo Tizzano at openside, Andrew Kellaway and Dylan Pietsch return in the back three, and Corey Toole reclaims the right wing.
- Schmidt will use the one-off test to assess Wallabies squad depth, and Aidan Ross could become the fifth man to represent both nations if he replaces Angus Bell.
- After the Japan match, the Wallabies will play tests in London on Nov. 2, Udine on Nov. 9, Dublin on Nov. 16, and Paris on Nov. 23, with Schmidt noting `The players have acclimatised well here in Tokyo and the whole squad is conscious of the threat the Brave Blossoms pose.
