Shock as Motorsport Event Ends in Tragedy
Victoria Police said the sole occupant died at the scene after a single-vehicle crash during Round 5 of the MSCA Super Sprint Championship.
On Sunday, a driver died after crashing into a pole during Round 5 of the MSCA Super Sprint Championship at Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne. Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash at 10:05am.
The Marque Sports Car Association operates the Super Sprint Series as a grassroots, community-focused racing event. These events allow local car clubs to participate in inclusive, spirited motorsport competition.
Motorsport Australia issued a statement on Sunday confirming a "critical incident" occurred and its Critical Incident Plan is in action. Victoria Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
The driver, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, died at the scene and remains formally unidentified. Police are investigating whether a health event may have contributed to the crash.
Investigations into the fatal crash remain underway, with Victoria Police preparing a report for the coroner. The MSCA declined to provide further comment beyond their initial statement.
