Nvidia Investigating Reports that CEO Jensen Huang Was Targeted by Chinese Intelligence

An independent committee and outside counsel will review whether national security or Nvidia secrets were compromised, the board said.

  • On Sunday, Nvidia's Board of Directors announced an independent investigation after reports that CEO Jensen Huang was the "target of a foreign intelligence effort." A committee of independent directors and outside counsel will oversee the inquiry.
  • Intelligence agencies discovered Huang had developed a "close" relationship with Alice Huang, a Chinese citizen and executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed, who allegedly reported directly to Beijing. Megaspeed purchased more than $4.8 billion in Nvidia chips over two years.
  • In a staff memo, Jensen Huang admitted to being "unfaithful to my wife" and said he was "deeply sorry." The Board stated there is "no reason to believe that either national security or Nvidia secrets were compromised," though Huang will remain CEO during the investigation.
  • Jensen Huang is expected to attend a closed-door briefing with members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Select Committee on China to address national security concerns. Nvidia maintained his interactions with Alice Huang were "not unusual" and consistent with other customer meetings.
  • The Board expressed confidence in Jensen Huang's leadership amid FBI warnings that China continues finding creative ways to access U.S. state secrets. Liu Chang, spokesman for the Chinese embassy, dismissed the reporting as "unsubstantiated.
