Shell sues Greenpeace for $2.1 million after boarding oil vessel

  • Shell is suing Greenpeace for damages following a climate protest conducted by activists who boarded one of Shell's oil platforms in the Atlantic. Shell is seeking £1.7m in damages but has offered to reduce the claim to £1.1m if Greenpeace agrees not to protest at any of Shell's oil and gas infrastructure.
  • Fluor, an American oil and gas services provider, is also seeking damages of £5.3m from Greenpeace. Shell cited shipping delays, additional security costs, and legal expenses as factors for their damages claim.
  • Greenpeace stated that this legal action is one of the biggest threats they have faced and would consider complying with Shell's offer if Shell complies with a Dutch court order to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030. Greenpeace urged for government regulation of Shell.
