Sheffield City Hall announces eight new Trainspotting the Musical shows
Irvine Welsh’s adaptation adds an all-Scottish principal cast and new music as the show opens in the West End before a 2026-27 UK tour.
Trainspotting: The Musical premieres at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket on July 15, 2026, launching a major UK tour across cities including Edinburgh, Sheffield, Manchester, York, and Hull.
Adapted from author Irvine Welsh's debut novel, the stage production features direction by Caroline Jay Ranger and music by Stephen McGuinness, aiming to inspect modern humanity through song and dark energy.
Scottish actor Robbie Scott leads the cast as Mark Renton, joined by Sheridan Townsley as Sick Boy and Kieran Andrew as Spud. Public ticket sales open tomorrow, Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m.
Producers describe the show as the "ultimate anti-musical," designed as a radical, life-affirming experience. Welsh stated the production possesses a "bigger, loudly beating human heart" than the original book or 1996 film.
Following the West End run, the tour visits Edinburgh, Sheffield, Manchester, York, and Hull before continuing into 2027 with stops in Aberdeen, Cardiff, and Glasgow, returning to Edinburgh in March.
