Pakistani PM arrives in Switzerland for U.S.-Iran talks
Pakistan says the talks are the first formal U.S.-Iran engagement since the Islamabad MoU and will cover a framework to end the war.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, to attend high-level technical talks between Iran and the United States, marking the first formal engagement since the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17.
The talks aim to end the war, lift the US blockade on Iran, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and establish a 60-day timeline for further discussions.
US Vice President JD Vance and an Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf participated, with Pakistan and Qatar acting as mediators to support durable peace and dialogue in the region.
The discussions also focus on making progress regarding Iran's nuclear program and Lebanon ceasefire efforts.
While Iran claimed that Lebanon would be the "main" subject of the talks, Israel stated that its troops would remain in the area they occupy in the South.
