Severe thunderstorms could develop in DC area Friday – WTOP News
On Friday, the Philadelphia region faced severe storms as the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m., warning of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
A powerful upper-level trough moved into the Northeast, creating atmospheric instability and wind shear that fueled the potential for damaging straight-line winds and isolated tornadoes.
The Storm Prediction Center placed the region under a level two 'slight risk' category, with forecasters warning of wind gusts approaching 60 to 70 mph and intense storm activity expected between 4 and 9 p.m.
Following the cold front, temperatures plummeted dramatically; Saturday's highs remained in the mid-50s, and Sunday morning brought widespread frost as overnight lows dropped into the 30s.
Temperatures will reach the mid-60s on Monday and near 70 degrees on Tuesday, with generally dry conditions expected to continue across Pennsylvania into early next week.
