Thousands gather in London for pro-Palestinian march
Hundreds marched to the Scottish Parliament and demanded an end to arms sales to Israel as organizers marked the war’s third anniversary.
On Saturday, thousands joined a pro-Palestine march in London, where Metropolitan Police enforced Public Order Act powers requiring protesters to remove face coverings used to conceal identities or intimidate others.
The demonstration occurred three days after the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in 1,221 deaths and the capture of 251 hostages.
Police made several arrests, including individuals supporting the banned group Palestine Action, while a counter-protest by Stop The Hate gathered outside New Scotland Yard to oppose the march.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Carl Galvin refuted accusations of "two-tiered policing," stating "it is officers exercising professional judgment and acting proportionately based on the facts before them," though the Campaign Against Antisemitism disputed this characterization.
Similar protests occurred in Berlin and Dublin as demonstrators demanded an end to strikes on Gaza; Aimee Shalan, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, called for "full sanctions on Israel.
In order to put an end to the Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip, the demonstrators demanded four measures from the federal and provincial governments.
