7 people are dead after pickup and tour van collide near Yellowstone National Park, police say

  • On Thursday evening, seven individuals lost their lives when a Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed with a Mercedes passenger van near Henry's Lake along U.S. Highway 20 in eastern Idaho.
  • The van carried 14 passengers as a tour group, and the crash, which followed a fiery collision, occurred just before 7:15 p.m. at milepost 399, with Idaho State Police responding.
  • Six victims were van occupants, and the driver of the pickup also died, while emergency crews closed the highway for several hours and local partners assist the ongoing investigation.
  • The Idaho State Police reported they will be in charge of the inquiry, collaborating with local and regional agencies, while the cause of the accident is still being examined and no estimated time has been given for when the highway will reopen.
  • The Fremont County Coroner's Office will identify the causes of death and provide the identities of the victims to the public once their families have been informed, as the investigation in Fremont County continues.
