Serious incidents in Victorian childcare jump as staff qualifications slide
Serious incidents at Victorian childcare centres increased by 8% last year, while qualified staff with required experience dropped to 75%, the Productivity Commission reported.

- Minister for Early Childhood Education Jess Walsh said the department is implementing stronger regulation with increased penalties and funding withdrawals, and education ministers will meet later this month.
- Early Childhood Australia CEO Samantha Page urged a dedicated early childhood services commission as confirmed breaches doubled from 118.4 to 533 in 2024/25, and Bambini Family Day Care shut all 56 services after an emergency action notice.
