Serbia ‘Still Ignoring’ UN Court Monitor over Vojislav Seselj Case
The monitor appointed by the Hague tribunal to check progress of the contempt-of-court case against ultranationalist Vojislav Seselj said she has not received a single response to her inquiries from the Serbian Justice Ministry.
Dagmara Albrecht, monitor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), announced today that there is still no new information on the status of the case of Vojislav Šešelj and the other accused in contempt of court, which was sent to Serbia.
A NEW UN report reveals that Serbia has been failing to respond to inquiries about the proceedings against Vojislav Šešelj and four others charged with contempt of court for months.
In April 2024, the Hague Mechanism transferred the case against the radical leader Seselj and four of his associates to the judiciary in Serbia
The Serbian Prosecutor's Office has not yet brought charges against Šešelj, Damjanović, Ignjatović and Ljiljana and Ognjen Mihajlović for contempt of court, although the International Mechanism for Criminal Courts (IMCT) transferred this case to Serbia in March 2024.
In her twelfth report to the International Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IMCT), the monitor monitoring the status of the cases against Vojislav Šešelj, Miljan Damjanović, Miroljub Ignjatović, and Ljiljana and Ognjen Mihajlović for contempt of court stated that she had not received a single response to numerous inquiries from the Serbian Ministry of Justice.
