Security Guard in Custody Following Deadly Shooting at Northrop Grumman Near BWI Airport
One contracted security guard fatally shot another during a dispute at Northrop Grumman; a third guard detained the shooter, police said charges are pending.
On Wednesday, a fatal shooting was reported about 3:30 p.m. at the Northrop Grumman facility in Linthicum, where one contracted security guard fatally wounded Joseph Keith Aman, 37, of Baltimore.
Anne Arundel County police said the dispute began when two contracted security guards argued and escalated after one pulled a firearm, triggering the shooting.
A third contracted security guard intervened, disarmed the suspect and detained him until officers arrived, while Maryland Transportation Authority Police alerted Anne Arundel County Police and secured the office area inside the facility.
The accused, Dylan Blake Chandler, 26, of Pasadena, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, while Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Detectives seized the suspected gunman's weapon and charges are pending.
Police characterized the incident as isolated, and Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County police spokesperson, said 'This did not involve any Northrop Grumman employees'; the contracted security guards carried firearms and families are being notified.
