Second train derails day after two passengers badly hurt in East Sussex
British Transport Police said no injuries were reported as investigators examined a second derailment that blocked lines and caused major disruption.
- On Friday, a Greater Anglia train derailed just south of Wickford at 2:12pm, leaving rear carriages upright while officers assessed the scene for injuries.
- This incident occurred less than 24 hours after a Southern Rail train derailed near Lewes on Thursday, involving roughly 150 passengers and two individuals with "severe" injuries.
- Greater Anglia suspended all services between Shenfield and Southend Victoria, warning of "major disruption" until at least 6pm and advising passengers not to travel.
- Councillor Alex Myers from Basildon Council commented, "My thoughts are with all those onboard and hope there are no serious injuries," while the Rail Accident Investigations Branch prepares updates.
- The RAIB will provide information "next week once we know more" as Network Rail spokespeople work to understand the situation across Anglia following the back-to-back derailments.

A passenger train has derailed near London, the second derailment in two days after two people were seriously injured when another train came off the tracks on Thursday.
A train derailed Friday in Essex, in eastern England, without causing injury to any person, announced the British transport police. It is the second such accident after a derailment on Thursday afternoon, in which two people were seriously injured, reports AFP, taken by Agerpres and Sky News.
Paramedics and firemen intervened, but according to the Ministry of Transport, no injuries are to be deplored.
