Montana Vet Program Teams up with Guard, Search-and-Rescue Crews
Multiple search and rescue teams used a long-line extraction to lift the hiker from steep terrain after an ankle injury.
On Sunday, July 19, Juan de Fuca SAR executed a long-line rescue to retrieve a hiker suffering from an ankle injury on the Juan de Fuca Trail.
Extremely difficult terrain forced the team to call for aerial assistance from Metchosin, Emergency Health Services, and North Shore Rescue to reach the injured person.
Lower limb injuries remain the most frequent reason for rescue callouts, often exacerbated by improper footwear on trails that hide rotten wood and tree wells.
Rescuers successfully lifted the hiker from the bush safely, and Juan de Fuca SAR posted on Facebook wishing the individual a smooth recovery.
Across the province, 78 teams and 3,200 volunteers with the Rescue Association respond to about 1,960 incidents annually, promoting safety through trip planning tools and online resources.
