Seal pup being nurtured back to health after found staving on Washington beach
- Earlier this week, a roughly two-week-old harbor seal pup was discovered alone and malnourished along the shoreline near Des Moines in the state of Washington.
- The pup was likely abandoned after its mother was scared away by humans or pets, which can cause such separations.
- The seal pup is currently being cared for at a specialized marine wildlife center in Des Moines, where staff minimize human interaction to prevent her from becoming accustomed to people.
- Casey Mclean, executive director, explained that the team kept a close watch to confirm the mother seal was not returning, and the pup is fed four to five times each day.
- Once the pup regains sufficient health, staff plan to release her back into the wild to continue her natural life.
