Sarwar says he will 'absolutely' stay on as Labour leader
Sarwar said he will stay on as senior figures demand a leadership contest after Labour won just 17 seats and tied Reform, officials said.
On Sunday, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar insisted he would "absolutely" remain in post despite his party recording its worst-ever result in the Scottish Parliament election, with only 17 MSPs elected.
Sarwar blamed a "national wave" against the party across the UK for the defeat, which saw the SNP returned to power for a fifth consecutive term, though they fell short of their 65-seat majority goal.
Scottish Labour MP Brian Leishman urged Sarwar and deputy Jackie Baillie to stop "dilly-dallying," arguing there "has to be consequences" for a result that tied the party with Reform UK for second place.
On Saturday, Labour MP Catherine West called for cabinet ministers to challenge Prime Minister Keir Starmer's leadership, claiming she has 10 MPs backing her bid but would need at least 81 to succeed.
Sarwar pledged that his "responsibility now is to hold my party together" and hold the newly elected SNP government to account on their record during the next five years at Holyrood.
