Wildfire north of Los Angeles prompts evacuation order for parts of Santa Clarita

The fire grew fast from about 5 acres and prompted evacuation orders and warnings for several neighborhoods, officials said.

  • On Sunday afternoon, the Bike Fire erupted in Santa Clarita, quickly consuming at least 230 acres near Cambria Estates Lane and Ravenhill Road. Los Angeles County Fire Department crews responded immediately to the fast-moving blaze.
  • This incident marks the second notable brush fire in the Santa Clarita Valley within two weeks, following the 1,048-acre Bouquet Fire near Castaic last weekend. Crews also contained the 150-acre Danny Fire near Gorman on October 8.
  • Both Los Angeles County Fire and Angeles National Forest crews coordinated suppression efforts, battling "erratic" fire behavior while mobilizing two air tankers and two type 1 helicopters. The aircraft were deployed to assist with the rapidly spreading blaze.
  • Officials issued evacuation orders for the Sultus, MacMillan, Nadeu, and Sandsouth areas as structures became threatened. Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control established an animal shelter at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster.
  • The fire remained at 0% containment as of Sunday, with officials reporting the cause was currently unknown. Authorities continued monitoring the blaze as it burned through the rugged terrain near Golden Valley High School.
