Rock Musician to Fund Alex Salmond Case Against Scottish Government
Paul McManus will fund and pursue Alex Salmond’s legal case alleging misfeasance by senior Scottish Government figures after Salmond’s death, with costs awarded exceeding £500,000.
- On Friday, Paul McManus, businessman and GUN drummer, said Moira Salmond assigned him legal rights and he will fund the case initially brought by Mr Salmond.
- Following the estate's sequestration in November 2024, a trustee has been instructed to wind up the estate, removing Moira Salmond’s control.
- Preparatory work led by Professor Peter Watson of PBW Law with partners Michael McKitrick and Pamela Rodgers followed Salmond’s 2020 acquittal and a judge finding the process `tainted by apparent bias`, awarding £512,000 in legal costs.
- McManus said he believes SNP leaders plotted against Salmond and wants those responsible held to account, despite the Scottish Government declining to comment.
- Work has been progressing for months under Professor Peter Watson and the assembled legal team, while lawyers plan to apply next week to appoint a trustee in sequestration; Paul McManus’s stake sale in Cloburn Quarry last year shows his funding capacity.
